Wooden Retaining Wall

This project was completed for my Statics and Mechanics of Materials 2 class. For this project, my team was tasked with designing an 80 foot long retaining wall with the most economical design. This project challenged us to use the tools and knowledge we had accumulated in Statics and Mechanics 1&2 and take economic variables into consideration. The exposed portion of the wall was idealized as a cantilever beam with a distributed load along its length and height from the horizontal planks. A cohort of planks with fixed heights and lengths of wood could be bought to constrain the design. The number, size, design and cost of planks all had to be considered to find the most economical solution. In this project our team did not assign roles and all members were equally involved. The primary responsibility I fulfilled was the design and force analysis of the retaining wall and assisted with the excel document in finding the cheapest solution.
